Right at the beginning of the curve, before the steep power of exponential growth sets in. That’s where you’ll find them, the early adopters. They are the ones that are trying out new things that most of us haven’t heard about at all. They are the ones that are shaping your future even though you’re completely unaware of it. They are the pioneers of the 21st century. The brave settlers. The ones that are conquering the new world.
They are flexible. They keep an open mind. They don’t get set in their ways. They are not complacent. They are constantly challenging themselves. Always on the lookout for new things. They can propel interesting projects forward, or they can cause not so interesting projects to come to a halt. They have enormous power, but you are not aware of the effect they have on your future because you don’t see them. But just because you cannot see them, doesn’t mean that they’re not there.
The early adopters know that things were not better before. They know that progress is always moving forward. They don’t dwell on what could have been. They always look to the future eager to discover the next thing.
You can become more like an early adopter. It just takes some practice. Stop dwelling on the past and things that might have been. Embrace new challenges and be confident that you can handle them. Never start a sentence with “I wish…”, make it happen instead.
You’ll wire your brain in new ways, increase its plasticity and become more creative. In time, you’ll see new ways of handling things that you would never have thought of before.
Never become complacent. Never stop learning. Never stop challenging yourself.
